Maybe someone told you these things, when you were very young -

"you're not good enough;"

"you're not bright enough;"

"you will never amount to much of anything;"

"stupid, stupid, stupid;"

"you don't know nothin';"

and, as you've aged, somehow it has become an unconscious belief about yourself that you are not consciously aware of. ....

It's journalists like Judith Miller and Bill O'Reilly that are the enemy of truth.

Yes, that "fair and balanced" advocate whose validity as a man is constantly in need of reminding us poor souls - and, I suppose himself - that he represents "us." This is a man fixated on himself - a vain, liar that is forever boasting of the fear he instills in those poor souls lying about at the bottom of the hill - while, all the while, cloaking his vanity with visions of grandeur, of being a new-age "Mike Wallace."

Fuck you Larry Blakeley, stronger msg to follow.

******************************************************************************
Actually, after numerous emails of communication, we arrived here:

"Larry, it is quite apparent that you deeply loved & admired your Father. I find that admirable & can only hope that my children feel that way about me. Your Father flew an aircraft that I would have enjoyed flying, the F-104 Starfighter. I hope you can come to an understanding with Ken Cordier, a good friend of mine who I admire. You sound like a well-intentioned person who loved his Dad & wants to tell the world about him. God bless. John Y"

Colonel Yuill - I believe you being unfair in your accusations - nothing in this Web site under the name of my father has a political stance - in fact, I hate politics and feel that if people would be as passionate about poverty, homeless, etc., then maybe we would increase the quality of life for the downtrodden.

I will say - you cannot take a headline out of context, and make an informed decision to attack some that are actually on your side, and defend your service.

I wish you to visit the Web site with some understanding and compassion before you send another nasty attack.

Larry Blakeley
Dallas, Texas

.".... It also describes that a man can be tender, but yet still be capable of killing for his country and fellow American that needs him to when called upon. I want this story to include the fellow pilots (that meant so much to him) that he had known and flown with over a 12 year period of time between December, 1953 and July 22, 1965.....

These men are the Best America has every had and deserve something that shows that fact for others to understand what type of men they were and what America should be again.

So, to you, sir my respect was acquired at a very young age and has always remained even through all the pain and tears of loss - a long-time admirer of these men in uniform here http://www.royblakeley.name/roy_james_blakeley/larry_salute.djvu

Some Vietnam History http://www.royblakeley.name/roy_james_blakeley/vietnam_history.htm and what is being taught by Professor Kathryn Statler, University of San Diego http://www.sandiego.edu/, Department of History http://www.sandiego.edu/history in her curriculum of a history course stereotyping the Vietnam veteran (and American male) as corrupt and savage. http://www.royblakeley.name/roy_james_blakeley/vietnam_history.htm

This approach is some of the same rhetoric of untruths proclaimed by certain political opportunists - that now want us to support them. I refuse to allow this. This story will prove without a shadow of a doubt that some people have absolutely no clue whatsoever what many of these sons, fathers, and husbands were all about. And, I have proof and will tell the truth through this story of my father - one of many just like him.

Larry, I just finished accessing your Web sites. What is your objective? Best I can determine you have created an extensive Web site about your father but to what purpose & once again, why did you send me that e-mail about Miller & O'Reilly?

Well, the purpose of the Web site telling the story of my father is to show what "real" men of his generation were like - compassionate, loving, felt a strong sense of duty to country, some came from poor families and worked there way up to "fly their jets," serve their country, and kill the enemy while 18 -20 year olds were being pulled to safety after being ambushed by Viet Cong - this required "balls" to come down to below traffic pattern altitude in order to strafe "over their heads"; and, of course, the most important for me is to show how much I love him, for being a father, a man, and a hero in my mind's eye.

Now, as to the little spoof on Miller - this is nothing more than a representation of how the media can get things wrong - the world here in America is very complex, today - and, all I am trying to express is one person's opinion - mine - that with this complexity, requires a much deeper reflection, and evaluation of who's telling what. It's nothing more than that.

As to O'Reilly - I noticed just today that he is currently being accused of sexual harrassing a female associate. Look, O'Reilly is not a big issue to me - and, quite frankly, I don't understand why you are so defensive for him - in any event, I could have left both of them out of the article and not affected the themes whatsoever. So, I really don't want to focus on him as a point of conflict here.

As to why you received the email - several weeks ago I put together a group of email addresses to send out an article I wrote called "The Belly of the Ship" - and, somehow I suppose the Red River Rats contact email was included.

I will look yours up and delete it.

NOTE: AS SO OFTEN HAPPENS WITH ME - I HARDLY EVER JUST "STOP THINKING" ABOUT A CONVERSATION. IN FACT, JUST "SLEEPING ON IT" WILL REVEAL THINGS TO ME, LATER.

WHY IS THIS SO? I'M NOT SURE, BUT I TEND YOU SPECULATE THAT POSSIBLY, MANY TIMES MY MIND THINKS I HAVE CONVEYED THE THOUGH TO SOMEONE ELSE, WHEN IN FACT, I DID NOT. AND, ITS JUST SEEMS REASONABLE TO ME THAT, QUITE POSSIBLY, MY MIND THINKS MUCH FURTHER AHEAD OF MY SPEECH AND WRITING.

SO, YOU CAN TELL THIS HAS HAPPENED AGAIN WITH ME - THIS EMAIL IS AN ELABORATION OF A COMMUNICATION ERROR THAT WAS REVEALED "TO ME, BY ME."

Oh, I should have mentioned - larryblakeley.com is used to teach computer skills.

I will travel all the way around the flowchart of the processes involved in the digital world.

In fact, the email sent to you used the "comma separated value" method - in other words, it appeared as a single mailout to you, but in fact was a mailout to 95 entities - none of which appeared on the "to" field.

Yours was picked up because I just copied the group and pasted it in the "bcc" field. I did not go and look at each one separately.

My father's Web site is used to demonstrate what a "personal digital library" might look like - and, also demo "DjVu" image format. His Web site is more of a "storytelling" mode. The articles on his are anything that interests me, that does not belong to the computer/technical end of things that are on larryblakeley.com

I "write" articles to encourage people to come back - if no flow of thoughts, info, etc. then after a while there is no need for people to return because they have seen it all.

Some of my opinions may be controversial to some, and not to others; however, the premise is to push for the goodness exemplified in the men of my generation - and, yes, at times, becomes accusatory to "men" in general that I believe are not carrying the values forward of these men.

It is becoming ever so difficult to identify the good man from the bad, but advising people to be much more skeptical is also part of the plan in many of my articles.

Thank you. I now have a much better idea of what you are about. I do not like receiving e-mails from people I do not know, particularly when they have a hateful msg. I had no clue who you were or what you were about; the only thing I had to go on was your msg. If you are going to send your e-mails to the world with controversial messages you should expect some less than friendly responses.

Colonel - I understand, but was not ready to give up on you - the gatekeeper.

If I want to enter the land of the "good," I have to be willing to persevere and show myself. One of the objectives of my father's Web site (among many, many others) is to show who I am, who my father was, who my grandparents were, who my children are, what I believe in (and, yes, some - even amongst the good souls will disagree, but the theme of "goodness" is absolutely a mandate for this "community") in order to remove the cloak of "anonymity" that so many of the deceivers insist on using to hide behind.

What you see on my father's Web site is me - all the pain, the joy, the pride, the father, the son, the friend.

What you see on my Web site is giving back to folks that are just having a hard time with the digital world.

And, also it is a way of being pointed to some pretty cool Web sites that are all "non-commercial" - which means "safe surfing" - no hassles with sales pitches, etc.

If you look at the "contents listing" on my Web site you will see how it is organized. In particular, I would like to direct your attention to "Academic Search and Resources." These links were accumulated by me over a 12-month research project focusing on document/information management processes.

And, yes, I knew I might get some responses - that is why I put the bit about the journalists. In order to get heard about the true crux of the article - which is simply, a "storytelling" using a boy's game of "king of the hill," as a way of pointing out that the "kings of the hills" are not always truthful - but, more importantly, our heritage, as men is to use "goodness" in our heart for others. It is written in the storyfelling manner to keep the interest of the reader. They actually think they are ready a simple story about a game (until, of course, I start accusing the "king of the hill" of telling lies and falsehoods at the expense of the rest of us "on the bottom of the hill" - the common, ordinary American male that has "chosen" to meet their responsibilities as a member of "real men" and, most importantly, "fatherhood" - a many times - thankless job, but the rewards to our sons and daughters is stability, love of life, respect of their fathers, etc.

My Web site about my father shows how a "son" can feel about another man, his father (and, my granddad Ashton after Dad was gone) - and, how this teaching by him "took hold" and is carried forth, not only to my son, but to any reader that feels and experiences what I am trying to communicate.

Believe me - the article "Another Funeral: Young Burying its Own," is happening much too often - and, just breaks my heart that fathers would even consider "abandoning" their sons, whether emotion, physical, or whatever - abandonment.

These issues are important. It is important to promote fatherhood, show what it means to people, and spread the word.

You would be "amazed" at how many of the youth, have absolutely no idea of what a real man encompasses. It both sad and humbling - in many cases they just don't have a clue and, it's not their faulth - they need to know this.

That's why I tell them my story of pain, despair, and, standing at the "ravine of death," but in remembrance of my father and all other's that loved me - I "chose" to turn around, and live.

That's what I advocate to them - it's not all your fault for feeling unloved, worthless, and without any positive self-image, but "just don't do it," - don't kill yourself. I didn't - and, I show photos of my children so they can see that there is more life ahead for them - stay with it - and, live - don't hang yourself - and, I will show you what you should be when you become a "real man." It's "learning by example" - walk the walk, and talk the talk - these are truths of my father's generation - of which you "are" a part.

Larry, it is quite apparent that you deeply loved & admired your Father. God bless. John Y
