Good morning, Hubert.

Thanks for the thoughtful, encouraging words about this Web site.

I am proud of you for "learning" how to go to LizardTech, follow instructions, and install something new - this is good.

.".. I have to admit that I have problems finding my way. I still have some problems to get orientated ..."

- most of this is because we have all gotten used to the "point and click" Web sites, but this Web site is "evolving" into a "story - a story that could eventually be bound into a book for historical purposes."

So, I push the "storytelling" aspect of this - I believe this will be the value of collaboration among people like us in the near future when others start building their own digital libraries structured around the storytelling concept.

I would highly recommend to you to visit my Web site at http://www.larryblakeley.com

Everything is FREE - and it's purpose is to help others get "up to speed" on the digital world. I try to take some of the "mystery" out of the basic areas that are going to be used by 80 - 90% of the folks out there in the virtual world.

As to the approach on my father's Web site it is my suggestion that the reader go through the home page and in those places that I have inserted a line - represent folders - the same as http://www.royblakeley.name/roy_james_blakeley/ is the URL that goes to a folder - but to the "htm" document that contains the text (or, story if you will).

Now, since the homepage has a "index.htm" file the web server (by default) serves up that page.

So, I have not included an "index.htm" file in each of the folders and I have elected to turn-on with the Zeus web server the "content listing of each folder."

Once you become familiar with the contents of this Web site then you can rely on this file http://www.royblakeley.name/daily_logs/cummulative_log_file.htm

in order to keep you current on new changes, additions, etc. without having to re-read the Web site.

Most of my father's photos are in the directory/folder http://www.royblakeley.name/roy_james_blakeley/

but, I also have files under the folder http://www.royblakeley.name/larry_blakeley/

This folder contains the stories I have written - as well as some others that I thought were of significant "social" value.

Here is an excerpt from http://www.royblakeley.name/daily_logs/cummulative_log_file.htm

Added the following to the Web page http://www.royblakeley.name/index.htm

I have not even begun to put together the photos (and video - plus audio) that my father took. He was a photographer enthusiast - and, there are even videos (I believe) taken from the cockpit of the F-100 & F-104.

I started this project - as mentioned on the Web site homepage - with scanning those photos that I felt like would be sufficient to complement the basic text (which is only rudimentary at this time - except for the stories posted, such as, "What was he thinking about?") of the story of his life (and, my mother's together). They are there (along with the text) to provide a basic chronological orientation for the reader - but, will evolve over time to a full-blown story about a man and woman's life - from a "value/moral/principled" orientation of a common ordinary American man (as told about in "A Message to the Common, Ordinary American Man").

Gradually, this Web site will evolve into a "streaming video/audio" presentation.

and further down in the Web page I added the following:

The stories contained in this Web site stands as a muniment of what I am trying to describe to others what we had; what we lost; and what we need back; here in America, from the the American man.

What about the American woman? I don't know much about that - other than they are choosing certain men, having children with them, being abandoned by them, or killed by them. So, from that perspective there is much to be learned by women from this Web site. And, that is the only contribution that I can legitimately offer to the American woman.

I just hope and pray that my daughters never become a victim of him http://www.royblakeley.name/larry_blakeley/articles/hacking_be_man20041029.htm. And, I offer up my son to America based on the principles of manhood covered throughout this Web site.

Hi, Hubert - this is an excerpt from the home page:

What do I need to view this Web site? You will need LizardTech's free DjVu plug-in for your Internet Explorer (or Mozilla's Firefox) to view the incredible images of photographs contained in this Web site.

Why did I convert most of my scanned photographs and some of the PDF files to LizardTech's DjVu image format? It's nothing short of outstanding, just like my father - nothing less for his life's story.

Will it harm my computer? Not a bit. It is a harmless browser plug-in available free from a reputable company that sells the conversion software.

Where can I go to learn more about DjVu? You can go here <lizardtech_djvu.htm>.

How do I get the plug-in? Just click on the icon (link) below, then follow the simple instructions contained there.

http://www.celartem.com/en/download/djvu.asp
<http://www.celartem.com/en/download/djvu.asp>

Just follow the instructions - if you have any problems, then let me know.

Sorry you have to do this - but, when you see the savings in "bandwidth" and the remarkable results of DjVu you will be glad to know about this outstanding way to post images.

Regards,

Larry

My father, Major Roy James Blakeley was an F-104 pilot in the 436th tactical fighter squadron based out of George AFB, California, USA - and, I have put together a Web site in his honor at http://www.royblakeley.name

Gradually, this Web site will evolve into a "streaming video/audio" presentation.

I would like to invite you to visit it.
