"A Tip for Reading the Articles/Stories"

On most occasions I have saved both an "htm" and "txt" version of the same article/story - especially, if it is somewhat long. I did this so that you could do this:

Place your cursor on the file name; then confirm that the end of the file name has the extension ."txt;" if so, the depress the right mouse button and select "save" - and save the file to your desktop.

If you are using Windows go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>Notepad - open the Notepad application then File>Open; browse to your desktop and select the Article/Story for printing. By printing out the document you can read it at your leisure away from the confines of the computer station.

If you are using Linux, then the odds are you already know what to do.

I would like to try something new. I run across articles every day - a few of which are very interesting to me, and, may possibly be interesting to others - that I would like to post somewhere, but not on this Web site as an item that reflects my opinions, or beliefs - and, really have no permanency of record for telling the stories contained herewith.

So, I am going to provide a link here for those articles of transitory interest. http://www.royblakeley.name/larry_blakeley/articles/daily_news_feeds_rss/daily_feeds_questionable_interest.htm

But, please be aware and keep in mind that none of these articles represent my beliefs - none of them - and, if they did I would post them in the normal fashion that I have provided from the very start of this Web site project.

"Guns and schools. You doubtless insist they don't mix, but alas, the brute fact is that many of our youth rather vehemently disagree with you: lots of young people these days have decided to bring guns to school, and to fire them at their classmates and teachers. You know this; I know you do. You know this because you tune into the news, at least every now and then. And so you've seen the blood, the bodies, the swat teams, the emotionless shooters in handcuffs and under escort, and so on. Now. I also know something else about you: I know you think that it's morally wrong for students to shoot other students. Well, let's suppose that you're absolutely, positively right: let's suppose that it is morally reprehensible for one student to shoot another. A question still remains: namely, Why not shoot nonetheless? I submit to you that this is a question our culture no longer wants to ask, because it no longer has an answer.

Now we're doing it again, with an international tour of global warming "hot spots." E sent some of the country's foremost environmental journalists around the world to document climate change in progress. Why now? .".. Not as the blind panegyrist of my race, nor as the partisan apologist, but from a love for "_the truth of history_," I have striven to record the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. My whole aim has been to write a thoroughly trustworthy history; and what I have written, if it have no other merit, is reliable.

I commit this work to the public, white and black, to the friends and foes of the Negro, in the hope that the obsolete antagonisms which grew out of the relation of master and slave may speedily sink as storms beneath the horizon; and that the day will hasten when there shall be no North, no South, no Black, no White,--but all be American citizens, with equal duties and equal rights ..."

An ambitious international project to reinterpret the oldest Bible in the world, the Codex Sinaiticus, and make it accessible to a global audience using innovative digital technology and drawing on the expertise of leading biblical scholars is officially launched today.

A team of experts from the UK, Europe, Egypt, Russia and the US have joined together to reunite this iconic treasure in virtual form. This unprecedented collaborative approach to achieve reunification involves all four of the institutions at which parts of the manuscript are held : St Catherine's Monastery, Sinai; the British Library, the University of Leipzig, Germany; and the National Library of Russia, St. Petersburg.

The project encompasses four strands: conservation, digitisation, transcription and scholarly commentary to make the Codex available for a worldwide audience of all ages and levels of interest. There are plans for a range of projects including a free to view Web site, a high quality digital facsimile and CD Rom. It is intended that this project will be a model for future collaborations on other manuscripts.

Physicians with more experience are generally believed to have accumulated knowledge and skills during years in practice and therefore to deliver high-quality care. However, evidence suggests that there is an inverse relationship between the number of years that a physician has been in practice and the quality of care that the physician provides.

- While "practice makes perfect" in some situations, physicians' knowledge and performance may decline with the passage of time.

-Of 62 published studies that measured physician knowledge or quality of care and described time since medical school graduation or age, more than half suggested that physician performance declined over time for all outcomes measured. Only 1 study showed improved performance for all outcomes measured.

- This review should provoke careful study of the relationship of physician experience and the quality of care. It also raises concerns about the adequacy of continuing professional education in medicine.

Note: An important point to keep in mind is that there is increasingly immense pressures being placed on practicing doctors to "keep up" with the "information age." The information overload is affecting all of us today - both patients and their doctors.
