Dear Mom & Dad,
Thanks for the mail and the stock report.
It's been another hot week. I have been flying one combat mission each day. I dive bomb and strafe targets as per higher headquarter's instructions. Hope we go back to escort up in North Viet Nam pretty soon as that's where the MIG's are.
Flew an outstanding mission the 15th. We had just got airborne and an Army unit was being ambushed and were pretty well cut up (lost 66 men) and they called us and asked for help. We spotted them and their attackers (Viet Cong) and rolled in on them. We killed 166 in about 10 minutes. The squadron here (436th) put all 4 of us in for an air medal. Will let you know if we get it. It made the papers over here.
How did Dad make out with the Boys?
Some of the guys have gone swimming at the beach. Not me, I won't even go into town. Ha. Someone threw an hand grenade in a cafe downtown the other day & killed 2 Marines.
We have nite artillery shells going off here every nite. The Viet Cong are pretty well surrounding the base from about 10 miles out. I wear a 38 pistol everywhere I go. Will take some pictures and send them to you.
There is 24 officers to a barrack & its supposed to hold 12. We have a house girl which cleans the place and will do your laundry for a small fee. I wear a clean flying suit every day. I wash my own flying suit.
Bet Larry is really enjoying himself in Texas. Wrote him a letter.
That's it for now.
Love you both,
